Tips on how to avoid bumps and ingrown hairs when you shave your bikini line and legs
Alcohol & fragrance-free
It is not unusual to get red shaving bumps and ingrown hairs on the bikini line area after shaving with a razor or using some other hair removal process such as a depilatory cream. You know you are likely to get some bumps on the bikini line after shaving when the area starts itching, and gets inflamed. With infection, bumps and ingrown hairs result. All of these can be avoided to a certain extent if one knows something about how to shave the bikini area properly.
First of all, one should understand that razor or shaving bumps and ingrown hairs are caused as a result of the skin reacting to the trauma of shaving. So anything that reduces this trauma should be welcome. A good shave gel should be used instead of soap. This allows the razor to glide over the skin so that the hair is cut with minimal effort while minimising the scrapping of the skin itself.
You should shave after a warm shower or bath. Run warm water over the area to be shaved before thoroughly applying shaving gel made for sensitive skin. This usually contains skin conditioners such as aloe vera. It also ensures that the hair is softened to make cutting it easier. If the hair to be cut is long, trim it first with a pair of sharp scissors so that the hair left to shave is as short as possible. All these measures put together help to keep the effort required to shave the hair as little as possible.
Use a triple blade razor. You get three cuts of the hair in one stroke, making for a close shave with few strokes. The blades should be rinsed out thoroughly with water; shake out the water, and soak the blades with alcohol to disinfect it after use.
When you start shaving, raise one leg on to the bath edge or on a stool if you are in a shower, and first shave the mons pubis on the side of the raised leg making long even strokes in the direction of hair growth. Don't shave against the grain. Then shave the labia of the same side. Stop as soon as you begin to feel some irritation. You can now shave the inner part of the raised thigh if you want. Rinse the shaved area thororoughly with fairly hot water, as hot as you can bear. Apply shave gel to the other side, raise the leg and shave the mons pubis, then the labia and finally the inner thigh of the leg. Then rinse thoroughly as you did on the other side. Dry the shaved area by gently dabbing it with a clean fresh towel instead of stroking or rubbing.
Do not apply talc to the shaved area, as this has been implicated in ovarian cancer. Better be safe than sorry.
It is important to apply some lotion to ensure you do not get any itching, and that no nasty red shaving bumps form on the shaved bikini area. The New Bump Zapper lotion is specially formulated from natural ingredients for just such a job. It is fragrance-free and alcohol-free so that it does not sting, and there is no risk of allergic reaction.
It soothes, disinfects and moisturises the skin leaving it soft and protected.
